October Glossybox

Sadly at first I was not excited about this box. None of the products are ones that I really wanted to try, however I found I was happy with the Dermatologica Age Smart products.

1. Dermalogica Age Smart MultiVitamin Thermafoliant - a skin polisher that combines physical and chemical exfoliants, with unique thermal technology that activates upon contct to enhance penetration. I love thermal products, I like the smell, its very zesty and refreshing and I love when I can feel a scrub scrubbing so this product was great for me. It is quite powerful so anyone with sensitive skin would need to be very careful.

2. Dermalogica Age Smart MultiVitamin Power Recover Masque - face masque with concentrated antioxidant vitamins to help skin recover and regenerate. The masque has the same fruity refreshing smell and the consistency is great - like a thick cream but sadly aggravated my skin when used right after the thermafoliant. I could feel an unpleasant tingling and after I washed the masque off I was left with bright red patches on my nose, cheeks and chin that lasted for a few hours so I would not be able to use this just before a night out.

3. Dermalogica Age Smart Renewal Lip Complex (bonus product) - daily treatment that restores the delicate lip tissue - I love this product! It smells beautiful - like raspberries, it moisturizes and give a lovely shine. Definitely a product I will buy.

4. Leighton Denny Expert Nails in Hanky Panky - an orange nail polish. This product I will definitely give away as I don't like orange and I don't like metallic nail polishes.

5. Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof eyeliner in Moray - a moss green glittery eyeliner. According to the description this is a highly pigmented, waterproof eye liner glides on to deliver intense, vibrant color with staying power. The color is interesting but not one I'd normally go for and I have found that it has absolutely no staying power and lasted maybe an hour on my eyes, so to sum up I am very disappointed with this product.

6. Robert Piguet edp - Fracas, Visa and Calypso - three signature scents from the Parisian designer. All three are too strong for me so I will be sharing these out.

Versace for H&M

I can't wait for the Versace for H&M collection, which will be available in stores from the 17th of November. I have had a look at the collection online and there are a few amazing pieces, but due to the appeal and strong status of Versace I am sure it will be incredibly hard to get my hands on anything. Prices are to start at £19.99, so I am sure there will be massive queues on the morning of the launch.

The collection looks to be quintessential Versace -  bold colours, colourful prints and edgy detailing with a strong nod to the Nineties - the height of Versace's popularity.

H&M has previously collaborated with Lanvin, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Jimmy Choo, Roberto Cavalli, Madonna and Matthew Williamson. I think it's really great that designers have realised they have many fans who cannot afford to pay thousands of pounds for their items and have designed quality signature style collections at affordable prices.

H&M is also offering the opportunity to win three complete looks from the collection and a Versace for H&M scarf. All you have to do is create a look on Polyvore using the Versace for H&M pieces.

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray

I was inspired to buy Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray by elleuk.com’s feature on “The Products We’ll Never Cheat On”. I have heard of Bumble and Bumble products before, however had not tried any. I normally don’t spend more than what I would on regular drugstore brands on products that aren’t personally recommended. Seeing as Elle’s Deputy Beauty Editor recommended BB Thickening Spray I decided to give it a go. The first thing I did (as I always do) was google it, to find out how to use it. I read a few reviews and watched instruction videos on bumbleandbumble.com. The videos were helpful, however I find that doing your own hair is very different to how a hairdresser does it, especially on long hair. It is much easier for someone else to do your hair, they have more flexibility. Hairdressers always use a brush and hairdryer, which I find very hard to do with long hair. I use a hair styler with a round brush which makes life a lot easier, however a separate brush gives a much nicer effect.

I ordered online and receive my BB Thickening Spray the next day. I decided to use only a few squirts of product to see how my hair would react. I sprayed my hair while damp, blow dried it upside down and put on rollers for a few hours. Initially I wasn’t too impressed with the product. I did get an initial boost of volume but it didn’t last long and I didn’t see much difference in thickness. I have been using it for two weeks now and am much happier with it. It took a few mistakes though. I once misted all over once I had put my rollers in for a set finish, as instructed on the bottle and when I took the rollers out my hair was like hay. I had to brush it out, which helped but left my hair feeling weighted down. I now know that I need to brush the product out right away. I have also noticed that with use my hair has become thicker and stronger and easier to style. Over all I am very happy I decided to get it and am thinking about trying their Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner and perhaps the serum. My hair doesn’t tend to react well when I use a full line though so I may put it off for awhile.

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray appears on many lists of best products and Bumble and Bumble claim it is one of their best sellers loved by hairdressers, models, fashionistas and beauty junkies worldwide. The product is for blow-drying, setting, heat protection, adding volume, lift and control and finishing. It can be used by anyone on any type of hair, thick hair too. They advise to spray on wet or damp hair evenly by sections, work through and style. Then mist all over for a set-ready finish.

My advice for any new starts: be prepared for a bit of trial and error before you discover how to use the product on you hair.

Revlon

A few months ago I was in Superdrug looking for a new eyeliner pen. A few brands had a 3 for 2 promotion and after much deliberation I decided on Revlon. I bought ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen in black, Double Twist Mascara in black and Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm in Passion and I was utterly disappointed with all three. I always thought of Revlon as a good brand with good quality products. They have a strong brand image and use many celebrities to promote their products, so I was all the more disappointed. I will definitely not be buying a Revlon product ever again.

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen
I like the colour – it is a nice shiny black and the pen keeps it’s shape. I have previously used some pens that lost their fine point and lost the ability to draw a fine line and make a nice cat eye flick, but the pen is hard and hurt my eyes to use, especially since I had to press down quite hard to get the liner to flow. The pen also does not allow for corrections, when I tried to draw over it again it erased the previously drawn line and would not let me draw a new one. So I have to make sure to get it perfect in one stroke, which isn’t always possible.

Revlon Double Twist Mascara
The formula itself is great, the colour is jet black, it coats lashes without clumping and gives a full lash effect, however the wand is the worst I have ever used. It is a two in one kind of wand combing a standard bristle brush with a plastic one and unfortunately this combination is not beneficial. The bristles put too much product on the lashes and the plastic ones are not able to take it off or distribute it so you are left with a big clump of mascara on your lashes. The first time I tried it I had to wash it all off and try again the next time taking as much product off the wand before applying. The effect was actually quite nice because like I wrote the formula is great, but disposing of so much product every time makes this a huge waste of money. The other option is to buy disposable brushes or use a brush from another mascara, but that is a lot of hassle.

Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm
I bought the lipstain in Passion, which is a bright pink and I love the colour, but the product does not work. The stain gives very little colour and comes off after a short while. The product also stings and dries out my lips. The balm is lovely though, it’s a shame its not retractable as it breaks too easily.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse

I absolutely love the smell of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse!!! It reminds me of sunny holidays – I can’t quite remember what I used that smelled like this, but it must have been something my Mum bought.
I have always wanted to try Nuxe products, but sadly never got around to it, so was glad I finally got the chance with my sample size Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse from my glossybox.

I have been using it mainly on my face after my morning shower instead of cream and I love it! The smell starts my day off on a happy note and they oil nourishes and moisturises my skin without leaving a greasy, oily film on my skin. My skin is soft and the product feels very lightweight – almost like I didn’t have anything on. I will definitely also be using it on my legs when I know they will be on show to give them that glossy look.

This dry oil for face, body & hair is suitable for all skin and hair types regardless of age. It combines 30% Precious Plant Oils (Borage, St Johnswort, Sweet Almond, Camellia, Hazelnut, Macadamia) and Vitamin E to nourish, repair and soften.

Some of the tips on how to use this product I have found are:

1. Mix a drop of Huile Prodigieuse with your foundation: it will glide smoothly on your skin without clinging.

2. Spray some Huile Prodigieuse in the palm of your hand and gently ruffle your hair for a natural effect.

3. Pour a few drops of Huile Prodigieuse in your bath for a blissful moment.

4. Blend with some body cream in the palm of the hand before applying it to the face or body.

5.To transform dry hair into supple, shiny locks apply Huile Prodigieuse generously as a mask then wrap your head in a warm towel and relax for 10 minutes. Rinse off then shampoo as usual.

I look forward to trying all of them!
